A reply invite like that would certainly make me keen to meet the farmer, he obviously has a good sense of humour. Meet the farmer, break the ice, and you have pretty much cracked it.
I am not too bothered about finding military stuff either, but my last dig was coincidentally just off a WWII airfield, parked on the former runway in fact, only a few buttons and bullets, but then a 1st century Roman fibula popped out! Of course there will still be older finds there - the farmer probably had a quick wander about and got bored. Any live ammo dug is probably best just reburied, to save the hassle of proper authoritative procedure. :D
