Did you Ground balance the machine ? Need to do this if you move from dry to wet beach and vice versa. ::g
My beaches are heavily mineralised and need to drop GB to 0 or 5 ::g

Good topic for you to read above, don't rush into buying something that you have not tested out or have received top rating for from the members.
Lots to choose from, I have the Deus and that's perfect for my needs but each to his own, they all have different ways of doing the same job and whatever feels right for YOU will always be the best choice, good luck, Liam OooO

Yeah I read through earlier today. Does your Deus go into the actual water Liam ? Planning on paddling round bays and having a pootle while on kayaks. Needing something genuinely waterproof and the Garret fits that, can't seem to find whether the Deus does ?

Yep, it seems the Deus has to be 'rigged up' to be in water. If that fell off our kayaks into the water would be ruined, whereas the AT Pro seems like a decent machine and will take water. For us, that's the deciding factor. Also Pro does salt and river water. As a photographer, this is very much like the Canon v Nikon debate lol !!! ........... I'm Canon btw :D

Hi Snowdrops - quote from the XP website -

Yes the coil is waterproof.

Capabilities as Factory Shipped:
Under water detecting is only possible at very shallow depths, for example in a stream where the coil will only be immersed by a few inches. This is not due to any waterproofing problem, but rather because the wireless radio link cannot pass through a greater volume of water.

Capabilities with Under Water Optional Accessory:
With the addition of a passive waveguide clipped to the coil, you can hunt with the coil deeply immersed in the water.

Is the XP Deus Lite waterproof ? I know the Pro goes way under the water.
Phil2401 wrote: XP Deus Lite at about £650 would perhaps do the job - not widely regarded as a 'starter' machine for some reason but as a relative newbie having cut my teeth on a Garrett Ace 250 I've found the Deus really no more difficult to understand - just far more capable - also wireless, weighs next to nothing and is easy to transport.

Hi again Snowdrops

The Deus Lite (without the control box) wouldn't be 'ruined' if it fell off your kayak - the coil itself is waterproof, but as with any machine, if it has a control box it won't fare very well if it gets dropped into water.

Done it ! Decision made. The Garret AT Pro is fully submersible to 10m so not worried about terrain or weather. Scoured vids and love what it can do and the amount of control you can have. Looks good. Ordered ::g Also gone for the orange Garret Pro-pointer, (again fully submersible ). Thank you all very much for your support. Off to the accessories forum next :D
